I obtain this error dialog in the windows 8.1 installer, when newly installing home windows right into a bootcamp produced partition.

You are watching: Bootcamp windows cannot be installed to this disk

Machine:

* 2013 Macbook pro through retina display.

* 16GB RAM

* 1TB SSD

Reproduction:

* Use Bootcamp Assistant to develop a USB stick through the Win8.1 Enterprise ISO, and the "Windows assistance files" (examine package in bootcamp assistant).

* Bootcamp restarts the lapheight into the Windows 8.1 installer

* In the win 8.1 installer, On the Partitions display screen I check out 4 options

* Partition 1 (EFI)

* Partition 2 (OSX 600GB)

* Partition 3 (small - likely the recoexceptionally partition)

* Partition 4 (BOOTCAMP 120GB)

* Selecting Partition 4, offers the warning message "Windows can"t be installed in drive 0 partition 4 (present details)" and the detail offers the error message "The schosen disk is of the GPT partition style". The following switch is disabled.

Does anyone recognize how to gain past this?

Cheers!

Namong the above functioned for me.

Use the EFI Boot partition instead of Windows partition once you restart and host alt. As viewed on a youtube video.

Worked for me on iMac

I"d like to include that this so far (still installing) appears to have actually resolved the trouble for me on 13" Retina MBP. HOWEVER!!! it appears to issue that the partition name is "BootCamp". I first left it as Untitled and that doesn"t job-related at all.

FYI everyone: THERE IS A VERY EASY FIX! I was attempting this convoluted technique of making it work and also I made a a lot simpler discovery!

If you have multiple drives, and also the drive you are installing Windows on will certainly not have actually any kind of various other OS documents on it, JUST SET IT UP AS MBR!

With disk utility, rather of playing about through the partitions on the drive, simply choose the drive on the left side and also develop a solitary exFat partition. Disk Utility will make it MBR for you. It"s really very basic. When you gain right into the Windows OS install, format the drive NTFS from exFat (Because katifund.org does not support NTFS in DiskUtility. I do not blame them on this - it would reason them to need to pay licensing fees to Microsoft. Booooo!)

You only require the goofy hybrid configuration if you are utilizing multiple OS"es on the same drive.

So, for circumstances, I have my MacPro 1,1 booting Window 10x 64little and MacOS 7.5. I had MacOS 10.11 on this however an upday wiped out boot.efs (an additional topic all together really). Since then for some factor I"ve never before been able to boot my MacPro on an unsupported OS. I think katifund.org did somepoint to the firmware in the latest OS that avoids MacPro 1,1 from making use of unsustained MacOS"es. That"s why I sought Windows, bereason I"m not ready to pronounce this hardware investment dead. Whether they did or did not mess through my device, I have actually grvery own tired of their ARBITRARY required hardware upgrade sindicate bereason they"re also lazy to support 32bit EFI in their later on OS"es. It"s been prrange that it"s not a limiting factor as Piker and also others have actually emerged boot.efi documents that "thunk" the 64little bit commands to the 32bit EFI. Don"t ask me exactly how it works yet it does, and frankly it"s criminal that katifund.org has actually not allowed even more modern OS"es on their original MacPro"s. Just goes to present you that it really is all around the almighty $$ through them, despite all their claims to be even more interested in the customer than Microsoft and also others. At least Microsoft keeps making certain they build-in compatibility layers for former hardware modern technologies.

If you read this through, you can detect a bit of hostility in the direction of katifund.org. It"s because I am not terribly wealthy and have loved katifund.org tech, even though being a Windows System Admin. But when they pull crap choose this, it really burns me up. After all, MacPro devices are VERY EXPENSIVE!

So - for all those fellow MacPro users and others who have been abandoned by Microsoft - If you use a complete drive for bootcamp, you CAN USE MBR formatted partitions through Windows 7, 8, and also 10. It"s a whole lot simpler, and tbelow is no disadvantage unmuch less you can not use the full drive for Windows.

Happy Computing! OOPS(Upday.... make sure to keep the name "BOOTCAMP" on the drive when using Disk Utility to make it exFat!)
